Watching Jenkinson’s improvement from last year has been a joy to watch. But it does beg the question, who should play in front of him? Wenger so far has used 4 different players on the right wing. In my opinion Ramsey has looked great against City, and might be the best to combine with Jenkinson. Also where does this leave Walcott? I don’t think playing on the right of a 4-4-1-1 plays to the strengths or desires of Theo. And of course everything will change again once Sagna comes back.

Jenkinson has a few things going for him and needs to improve in a few areas which is to be expected for a raw 20 y/o backup. He certainly has the necessary physical attributes for fullback--decent pace and strength combined with tremendous stamina. He needs to improve his technical skills and be a little more composed in possession. I too have noticed that he seems uncomfortable passing with his left foot and seems reluctant to take on players with the dribble. That means if he comes inside the only option open to him is a pass back to Mertesacker. If he tries to switch play with a longer cross field pass, he has to really pivot back in order to hit a right footed pass with enough pace and opposing players can read that with ease. Interestingly, against Liverpool he cut inside and hit a decent shot with his left so it could be a lack of confidence rather than a lack of skill per se.

As for our utilization of both flanks this season, I think it might have more to do with our forwards than our fullbacks. Last year, Theo was a fixture on the right and and from that position was second on the team in both goals and assists. On the left, Gervinho and Arshavin were, to put it kindly, inconsistent and it wasn't until Benayoun started the last six games that we had consistent performance at that position. So I think it was natural that our attacking play showed a strong bias to the right.

This season, Podolski has been very effective on the left while the play on the right between Gervinho, Ox, and Theo has been solid. Podolski, for me, has been a revelation. I knew he was a good finisher and has fantastic left foot but I've been very impressed with his link up play, his vision, and his desire to defend. He's played the same fabulous through ball in differing situations for an assist to Cazorla and two shots on goal for Gibbs. He drops back into midfield to help build the attack and of course, gets himself into position to score. He has to be one of our top players in terms of ground covered.

I am in slight disagreement about Jenko; not his crossing ability and stamina -those are great and gettibng better by the game. It is his one-footedness which i feel teams are starting to exploit

What I mean is that when the ball was passed to him he constantly opted to play the the ball forward along the touchline aerially, thus losing posession a great deal. He cannot come inside on his right and play a pass with his left (like Gibbs does on the other flank with feet reversed obviously). When he tries to come in he cannot play a left footed pass forward and the angle forces him to play a right footed pass across the field. Opposition players sense this and look for an interception. Happened a couple of times last night and against Pool.

amazing point of view on jenkinson..as highlighted above withe gervinho drifting inside and passing less to carl, will it be like curbing his crosses.. which is his important asset,or do u think it ll be handy when theo comes on right side..it really is a question of who is in front of him will determine his adapting credibility..and where does it leave sagna.. he attacks well .. will it be asking too much having two full backs on attack mode..and is it me or there is a mourinho s chelsea shade with the way we defend this season?
